Could it be???

I am wanting to pinch myself tonight...Sarah went pee on the potty! A bit sad that I am thrilled about this on a Saturday night, no less, but understand that I have changed diapers every day of my life for the last 3 years and 3 months. I am ready for a break (as is my wallet).

I must explain that she has been asking to sit on the potty for a couple of months now, but never does anything. In fact, she usually sits on it for about 30 seconds before saying "I'm done." So tonight I rolled my eyes a little as I took off her diaper to put her on the potty and I was talking to Shelby when I heard the tinkle. I think Sarah was as surprised as I was! We did lots of cheering, clapping and high fives. Shelby didn't get so excited. She said "She just went potty." Big deal she was thinking, I do that all the time.

Nate missed it. He is playing poker with the guys. That's alright, he wouldn't be as excited as I was. He doesn't change nearly as many diapers.

We'll see where this leads...either Sarah will train soon or it will all have been a fluke, a cruel joke. Time will tell.

Winter blahs, etc...

I can't stand this time of year. Christmas is over and that's the only good reason I can think of for winter so now I'm stuck with another 2-3 months of yuck weather before it gets nice again. Why do I live in the midwest again? I get so tired of being cooped up in the house with the girls but going out to play for the 10 minutes it would last is so not worth the 25 minutes it would take us to get dressed. Shelby would do well with some craft projects, but Sarah is just not old enough yet and she has to do all things Shelby is doing at all times. They nap and go to bed at the same times, so that isn't an option either...spring come soon, please!
Also, Shelby has been the queen of sass lately. She always seems to need the last word (does that remind you of someone else in our family?) or to do something one more thing after being asked to stop. I feel terrible sometimes because I feel like I don't get nearly enough time with the girls, and now it seems like I spend most of our time together griping at her. No fun! On the other hand, I know that we have to be consistent with her because I definitely don't want this relatively small issue to become a larger one as she gets older. I see too much of that at school. Case in point, a mom of one of my students from last year came to me today because her son WILL NOT do his homework. I wanted to remind her that he is 7 years old and much smaller than her. Instead I told her to take away his fun things until the homework is done each night. A groundbreaking idea, I know, but sadly, to her I think it was.
Sarah is good, finally over that nasty cold I hope. She is talking up a storm. I am always amazed at how the girls are developing so differently. Sarah is much slower on the motor development than Shelby was, but she is talking circles around her at that same age. She has been putting together 2 word phrases for a while now and will repeat almost anything she hears. She has the cutest sense of humor. We think she might be the funny one in the group as she gets older.
Some pictures to share...they aren't terribly exciting, but I looked at my camera tonight and realized that I have less than 10 pics from the whole month of January! What is that all about? When I get someone to take a picture of me, I will have to post it. I chopped my hair this week. I'm talking way too short for a pony tail. I really like it mostly because it is quicker in the morning and I think I look a little more grown up. My aunt did a great job with it. Nate is slowly getting used to me with shorter hair, but he thinks it makes me look younger.
This is gross, I know...Shelby likes to pick (all things unfortunately including her nose at times - yuck) so whenever she sees Nate pick at a callus she has to jump in on the action. This time she gave up on using her fingers and went for the tweezers. Nate is impressed at how well she does and how persistent she can be. I am sure she will love this picture someday when we show it to a group of friends or a future boyfriend.

Babies are the thing around here. We have 2 baby strollers now and no shortage of babies to push around. They love to circle the house with their strollers, Shelby leading the way and Sarah giggling right behind.

I have been working with Shelby at setting the table while I finish dinner. She doesn't yet have the concept of 1 fork or spoon for 1 person yet. As you can see, she just lined the outer edge of the table with spoons. I love the attempt though. :)

Happy '08

I can't believe it's 2008. Where is time going? I remember being young and a year seemed to last forever, and now I blink and a year is gone. It's been like that for a while now. I think I'm getting old!

I was thinking of resolutions with the new year. I usually don't make any, too easy to break, but I think I may try a couple this year. First, I want to work on simplifying my life. I have lots going on all the time and that can't be helped, but I also bring some of it on without needing too. So, I am going to try and get rid of the things that are not really important to me. We'll see how this people pleaser does with that. It could be a real challenge! My other resolution is to lose some of this baby weight that I am still carrying around. After all, my baby will be 2 in May! I have a good reason, with 2 weddings in 2 weeks next fall. First, my brother on Sept. 27 and then Nate's brother on Oct. 11. I want to enjoy shopping for a dress for them during the summer months. Wish me luck on my goals, and we'll see if I still have resolutions come Feb. 1.

Anyway, it was back to work today. I enjoyed sleeping in (if that's what you call 7:30 -- with little ones it is) a little too much. 4:30 came way too early today and I felt sleepy all day as I listened to my students read. Sigh... I guess it's only 2 more days until the weekend right? Shelby didn't want vacation to end either, when I went to wake her up this morning, she told me "Mommy, I'm still sleeping!"

I thought the girls were on the mend from their colds and ear infections today until Sarah woke up this morning with a yucky eye. That usually means ear infection for her. I am going to see how she wakes up in the morning and then decide if I need to call the Dr. again.

As you can tell, I didn't have much to tell, but wanted to say something.
