Just a little bit of everything on this Monday morning...
First of all, we have been working with Shelby on her language, bad language that is. She has discovered naughty words (gee, I wonder who she heard those from?) and likes to try them out, I'm afraid. Her favorites range from "stupid," "dumb" and "dammit" to much worse! Ahhhhh!!! She even says them in different ways to try and disguise what she is actually saying to try and avoid getting into trouble! That little smarty. Fortunately for me, she is smart enough to understand that they are bad words so we have been talking alot about what are and are not bad words and why they are bad words. It seems to help her to understand whey they aren't good.
At least now I know that when she uses them now, she knows what she is doing. Interesting times that I am hoping to nip in the bud because I don't want Miss Gretchen, the girl's new sitter/teacher to have a talk with me about language in the near future!
Sarah had her first visit to the dentist last week. Both girls have gone in recent weeks but I was dreading Sarah's visit much more than Shelby's. Toothbrushing time at our house often ends with Sarah crying because I have to pry my way into her mouth to brush just a little bit. So we get to the dentist and Sarah is right away super friendly with the assistant and when she asked her to open her mouth like an alligator --she did! That girl was such a show-off! They just gushed over what a great patient she was for a 2 year old. Hmmm, did someone secretly switch my daughter with one who likes to have her teeth cleaned and mouth looked at?
This is my last day of summer vacation. Where did the summer go? As usual, I have mixed emotions about this one. I will so miss all of the time I have gotten to spend with the girls but I know that it is time to go back. I have had more than a few days this summer when I wanted to call Cindy, my principal, and ask if she's sure it's wasn't time for school to start yet. We are planning on enjoying the day by hanging out with some friends at our house this morning.

A trip to the fair
The Boone County Fair has come and gone...it's one of my favorite times of the year. I have fond memories of it growing up and in fact have never in my life (from the age of about 1 week) missed the fair. Rides...tractor pulls with my dad...donuts made by the local firemen. Nate is not a fair person. We get him there one time per year for his yearly elephant ear and corn on the cob. I had a great time this year with the girls and have a few pics to share with you.
The girls are enjoying the car ride. I think I rode in this same car at the fair as a child. Nostalgic or kinda scary...I'm not quite sure.

Just 5
A friend of mine posted this on her blog and it got me thinking and writing. It was from her local paper and said to describe your child in 5 words. After some thinking and looking for the right words, here they are...

A night out and some potty news!
I mentioned my upcoming b-day last week (ewwww!) but I need to mention the night out that Brandon (Nate's brother) and Nate planned for us. Brandon's fiance, Deanna's birthday is the day before mine so we girls thought it would be fun to double date for our b-days. We didn't have anything too extravagant in mind but the guys must have because they treated us to a really fun night out. First we went to a fondue restaurant called The Melting Pot. If you ever have the chance to go, I would highly recommend it. Excellent food and lots of it, but it was much a pricier place than we usually go to. Yum!! Then, they took us downtown Chicago to a comedy club called Zanies which was really fun and the comic was way funny! Great planning Brandon and Nate and thanks for a really fun night!
In other news, Sarah is using the potty! I haven't been pushing but have been talking it up and encouraging all summer long and Saturday she went twice without first wetting her diaper so we put her in training pants all day yesterday (except for nap and bed time) and she did great. No #2 yet so we'll see how that goes on the potty, but this is very encouraging. I can't wait to lose the diapers in my life, it's been almost 4 years straight of giving my money to the Pampers co.
Next comes tackling that stinky old pacifier!
